Hit The Water

The entire Tampa area is blessed with gorgeous scenic view of the bay and Gulf of Mexico. Viewing it from the shore is enjoyable, but getting out and enjoying the water first hand is one of the best ways to experience the region. Visitors can book a boat tour of the bay and see amazing views of both land and water. Sportsmen can arrange for a charter fishing trip to take them either out into the bay, or beyond into the Gulf of Mexico, for a fishing trip they will remember for the rest of their life. Those who want to experience the local water in a more up close way can try kayaking, jet skiing, swimming, diving, snorkeling, or even surfing. There are many ways available to get out and enjoy the water when visiting Tampa and it is a definite must do activity.

Take In A Minor League Baseball Game

Vacationers heading to the Tampa area in the late winter are in for a real treat, especially if they are baseball fans. Many of Major League Baseball’s teams hold their spring training workouts and games in Florida, and the world famous New York Yankees are even headquartered during February and March in Tampa. Games can be watched both in Tampa and elsewhere around the state, sometimes within an easy drive. For those coming to the area after spring training leaves the region, the Tampa Yankees play minor league baseball at George M. Steinbrenner Field from April through September.

Go Golfing

Tampa is located in a perfect area for those that like to get out and enjoy the outdoors. The scenery surrounding the city is absolutely gorgeous and the weather simply cannot be beat. These two features work out perfectly for any traveler with an interest in golfing. Tampa takes advantage of its beautiful surroundings and great weather by providing a number of golf courses, clubs, and resorts for both travelers and local residents to enjoy. Obviously the bay and Gulf of Mexico serve as perfect getaways, but not everyone wants to spend time out on the water. Other areas where people can get out and enjoy the great outdoors in the Tampa area include the many beaches located nearby, Rowlett Park, Rogers Park, Riverhills Park, Mobel Americana, Swann Lake, Hillsborough River State Park, Lake Hancock, Alafia River State Park, Gulf City, Little Manatee River State Park, Terra Ceia Preserve State Park, Lake Shore Park, Oscar Scherer State Park, Fort Desoto County Park, Fort De Soto, Emerson Point Park, Lake Thonotosassa, Veterans Memorial Park, Lake Seminole Park, Walsingham County Park, Jerry Lake, and Caladesi Island State Park.

The city and the surrounding area offer all of the things found in bigger and more famous destinations, but do so at a more affordable cost and with fewer crowds and lines to deal with. There are not only great attractions in Tampa itself, the coastline both north and south from the city also offers some fantastic options for vacationers to spend their valuable time doing. When you combine the many great things to do in Tampa with the wealth of options in the surrounding area, it is obvious to see why Tampa continues each year to gain in popularity as a vacation destination.

My grandparents lived near Clearwater Beach when I was a kid. I have many great memories… and a few bad memories of the sunburns :-)
