Washington Nationals

Washington Redskins
One of the oldest and most successful franchises in the National Football League, the Washington Redskins have played their games in the Washington D.C. area since 1937 after having played their first five seasons in Boston.  The Redskins have a fan base rivaled by nearly every other team in the league and for years have been one of the hottest tickets in town.  One of the most exciting times in the city can be had sitting in the stands watching a Washington Redskins game.

Washington Wizards
The Washington Wizards are the National Basketball Association’s representative in the Washington D.C., playing their home games in the Verizon Center.  The team won the NBA Championship following the 1977/78 season and has had a number of other successful seasons.  The team has gone through a number of name changes over the years.  After having started in 1961 as the Chicago Packers and then playing for a season as the Chicago Zephyrs, the team moved to Maryland and became the Baltimore Bullets.  In 1974, the team moved to the nation’s capital and became the Washington Bullets.  The team remained in Washington D.C. following the 1996/97 season, but changed their name once again becoming the Washington Wizards.  A fabulous time can be had watching world class basketball players from around the league at any Wizards home game.

Washington Mystics
Founded in 1998, the Washington Mystics play their home games in the Verizon Center and are the team’s entry in the Women’s National Basketball Association.  The WNBA game is a fun and fast paced game that many people find they truly enjoy once they give it a chance.  The Mystics home games are exciting and are a fun way to spend an evening in Washington D.C. following a full day of looking at historical sites and museums.

D.C. United
Founded in 1996, D.C. United is America’s most famous and successful soccer club.  The team has won more championships than any other in Major League Soccer and they remain a contender each and every season.  The club has a rabid and vocal fan base and their home contests, held at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, are an exciting event.  D.C. United home games are like nothing else in professional sports, showing up and watching the crowd is sometimes just as fun as watching the contest on the field.

Washington Capitals
The Washington Capitals are the city’s entry in the National Hockey League.  The team has played in the city since its first season in the NHL in 1974.  The team plays its home games in the Verizon Center and attending one is a great way to enjoy professional hockey in the nation’s capital.  Washington Capitals home games offer both fans of hockey and those that are new to the sport a chance to see some of the best hockey player in the world ply their trade right in front of their eyes.

Washington Bayhawks
Not the first professional sports team that most people think of when they think of Washington D.C. teams, but the Washington Bayhawks are a vital and important part of the city’s sporting landscapes.  The Bayhawks are part of Major League Lacrosse and have experienced a good deal of success during their limited time as a team.  The team was founded in 2001 and play their home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland.  Viewing a Washington Bayhawks game is a great way to gain a new appreciation for the sport of lacrosse, and also a great way to spend some time in the greater Washington D.C. area.

Washington Kastles
The newest professional sports team in the Washington D.C. area is the Washington Kastles.  The Kastles are a team that competes in the World Team Tennis Pro League and were founded in 2008.  The team plays its home matches at Kastles Stadium which was built on the site that was once the Washington Convention Center.  Watching the Washington Kastles compete is not only a unique sporting event to watch, but it is a unique way to watch the sport of tennis too.
